The
Point System
The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) uses the
Point System to determine if your driving privileges
will be suspended or revoked and if you have to pay
a penalty for having too many points. Points are charged
against a drivers license when DMV is notified
of the following convictions :

| 11-20 mph over the limit |

| 21-30 mph over the limit |

| 31-40 mph over the limit |

DRIVER
RESPONSIBILITY ASSESSMENT
DMV Penalty For Points
|
If a driver is convicted of 6 Points, the Department
of Motor Vehicles will impose a penalty of $100.
per year and $25. for each additional Point, per
year, for a total of 3 years. If the driver fails
to pay the penalty for each year, the drivers
license will be suspended. (Note : This penalty
only applies if you accumulate 6 or more Points
within an 18 month period for tickets issued on
or after November 18, 2004.)
